Tape Aids Audio Library collection
The entire audio book collection can be browsed online.
Audio books covering a wide range of subjects are narrated and recorded in our own studios by trained volunteers. Recreational and educational books for adults and children are produced in eleven official languages of South Africa.
The Circulation Library at Tape Aids for the Blind despatches in excess of 2 000 audio books per day and innumerable copies of the 23 magazines produced by the organization. By International Postal Union arrangement literature for the blind travels post free.
A state-of-the-art computerised library system despatches the books to our library members all over South Africa, in accordance with their reading preferences.
Copyright permission is obtained from publishers and literary agents and new titles are constantly being added to our collection. We endeavour to maintain a balanced library stock in order to afford our members the same range of subject matter available to sighted people.
Volunteers are auditioned and wherever possible the voice is cast and matched to the content and style of the book.
Recording is done in our soundproof studios in Durban, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Pietermaritzburg.
Our master tape collection now exceeds 38 000 titles.
